The Lehigh Valley Business/Education Partnership was developed by local business and education leaders and is now part of the Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board. The partnership focuses on business-education collaboration to effectively prepare students to become productive citizens and employees.
LVBEP works with school districts to raise student achievement levels, offers career preparation and workforce development initiatives, and emphasizes the importance of sound educational policies when working with government officials in the local, state and federal arenas.
LVBEP assists students through the CareerLinking Academy, a career exploration program for high school students that focuses on aligning education with workforce needs. The program, which can be customized for each school district and the private sector, includes career awareness and preparation techniques; employer tours; job shadowing and tours of career and technical schools and colleges.
Participants in CareerLinking Academy learn important information, such as résumé preparation, interview tips and employability skills. The curriculum follows a similar path to federal, state and local career education initiatives.
Another LVBEP activity is Chamber Pathways, a volunteer partnership between LVBEP and the Executive Women’s Council of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. Through this program, Chamber volunteers meet monthly with high school females to promote career awareness and job readiness and encourage them to stay in school.
